trapped at home sick with my HVAC system

There is nothing worse than being sick with the flu.

It’s the most uncomfortable situation you can possibly be in, if you ask me. I have been desperately trying to avoid getting sick the entire winter season. However, with all of my co-workers and peers dropping left and right, it was obvious that I was not going to escape the same fate. Sure enough, last week I finally got sick. I was coughing and sneezing, my stomach was churning all day and night, and my internal temperature was fluctuating wildly between hot and cold. I regularly shook and shivered, punctuated by sweating and needing to take a cold shower. Clearly, I wasn’t going to be able to go into work for a while, and my fever needed to slowly die out at home. Unfortunately, this meant that I was living at the mercy of my central heating, cooling, and ventilation system. If you haven’t experienced it before, it’s quite difficult to be bedridden and have unexpected hot and cold temperature fluctuations all day long. When you can’t easily get up to adjust the thermostat, life can get pretty miserable. My internal thermostat was going haywire, and my only source of comfort was to continually adjust the central heating and cooling system up or down. Time and time again, I pulled myself out of bed and hobbled down the hallway to the central temperature controlling device. I really put my furnace and air conditioner through their paces. After this flu and the days I missed from work, I am not excited to receive my energy bill in the mail this month.
