Being a volunteer at my local library is genuinely relaxing.
Especially during university afternoons where I don’t get a lot of kids coming into the library. The best thing about working at the library is being able to get the first option to learn a newly released novel. The worst thing about working at the library is yelling at kids to be quiet. I don’t like to raise my voice but if I have to tell someone three or four times to quiet down, I will. Plus I don’t like being that stereorespected librarian who tells children to “shush.” Most of the time I’ll let the loud talking go, if there’s not a lot of people in the library. On one boiling summer time weekend, the library was genuinely busy. Because of the huge crowd, the library was start to feel absolutely warm. I went to the programmable temperature control to lower the cooling system temperature but for some reason it wasn’t working. I called the HVAC provider that normally comes to our library plus inspects our system. He diagnosed the HVAC system plus called to my attention that the seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) was low. This wasn’t a genuinely great thing because this meant that there was low energy efficiency. This also means that the library is wasting energy plus paying more money to run the system than they should be. I called the director plus asked for his opinion because the supplier advised that the air conditioning unit be upgraded. The director agreed to go along with it, since the HVAC system was aged.
